11.Thank the bees
[00:01.90]11. Thank the bees [00:03.72](Tex, Indi and their dad are visiting a honeybee farm.) [00:09.40] “Welcome!” says Mrs Dee.“Who wants to see how honey is made?” [00:16.84] “I do!” says Indi. [00:20.11] “Me too!” says Tex. [00:22.95]“OK,” says Mrs Dee. [00:27.26]“First, the field bees collect sweet, juicy nectar from the flowers in our fields. [00:35.50]Then they carry it to the hive. [00:39.33]The worker bees in the hive take the nectar from the field bees and put it in the honeycombs. [00:48.50]Once the nectar is thick and gooey, the worker bees cover it with wax.” [00:55.41]Mrs Dee puts on a special outfit to protect her from bee stings. [01:01.58]Then she uses smoke to calm the bees and opens the hive box. [01:08.49]“Each hive has thousands of worker bees,” says Mrs Dee. [01:15.40]And one has a very important queen bee.” [01:18.44]“Does the queen bee wear a crown and sit on a tiny throne?” [01:24.46]says Indi, giggling. [01:27.71] “Maybe,” says Mrs Dee, smiling. “It is much bigger than the other bees.” [01:35.85]Mrs Dee breaks off sticky chunks of the honeycomb and gives everybody a piece. [01:44.70]“Yummy!” says Tex. [01:47.48]“This is the best honey I've ever tasted. Thank you.” [01:52.47]“Don't thank me,” says Mrs Dee. [01:56.51]“Thank the bees.”
